Charlotte's CA18DET Datsun 1600
Update 18th March 2002
More dramas! This time though they might be a blessing in disguise...
Last Thursday we went to pick the car up from the workshop where it had been getting the following-
- cleaned and rekitted injectors
- new timing belt
- new spark plugs
- correct diameter and rating fuel lines and a fuel filter
- surge tank and pre-pump
- dyno tuning
I got there in time to see the last dyno run and although I dont have a printout as yet it did get 180 rwhp, which is what I was expecting. :) We took the car for a test run and noticed a terrible grinding noise coming from the turbo under boost, which got quieter the further the motor was revved.
Took it back to the workshop and turned out the turbo was stuffed - the compressor wheel was really loose and there were scuff marks inside the housing. So I didn't even get to drive it home!
But the good news is, it gives me a good excuse to get a bigger turbo. I have a T28 off an S14 Silvia lined up and it should be arriving next week which will be awesome. Expect some pics and more updates once this is fitted.
There are also a few other things that need doing such as replacing the brake booster as it seems to be stuffed and lowering the motor in the engine bay so I can close the bonnet and re-fit the standard bonnet prop mechanism. Hopefully this should also fix the steering problem.
