Charlotte's CA18DET Datsun 1600
Update 13th June 2002
I didn't think it would be this soon but we actually have some stuff to report already! We're still not real happy about the whole crash thing but have decided to make the best of it. My insurance company has been very cool about the whole thing and it turns out I don't have to pay a cent for all the work that's it taking to get my poor baby back on the road. And it was only covered under a cover-note at the time! If you ever need a modified car insured contact Shannons first as I highly reccommend them.
The car's still sitting out of town at the moment but the good news is that I have a new shell already, as you can see in the images below. It doesn't look anything special but its actually quite straight and rust free. It came with doors, guards and bonnet, but we are probably using mine as they are in better condition. Work has been progressing quite quickly, more than the images show as they were taken the day after the shell was obtained. One side is now primed, any holes have been welded or fibreglassed, and the battery mount has been removed from the engine bay, but you will see all this in the next lot of pics I take.
The shell is actually an auto so it will be interesting seeing if the gearbox mounts line up and stuff but it will all be resolved whatever the situation is. I am also taking the opportunity to save up for a few new items like a diff (not sure what sort yet - if someone out there wants to 'lend' me a R180 LSD then feel free!), some different (higher) springs, a 3" exhaust through a larger reinforced hole in the rear x-member, and maybe some adjustable lower control arms. Oh and the interior needs a bit of a freshen up too so hopefully I will get some new carpet as well.
Anyway enough of my babbling for one day, here's the pics ...
