Charlotte's CA18DET Datsun 1600
Update 9th July 2002
Being on holidays we managed to get a bit of work in ourselves last week, and have progressed quite well. The new shell was undercoated/primed and then painted, and a few things transferred over like the brake booster etc. I am really happy with the new shell as it's in great condition, very straight and rust-free. The battery holder has been completely removed and smoothed over so you can't even tell it was there, and all inside the front wheel arches have been stripped, stoneguarded and painted black - its looking very neat!
The old car has been brought into the workshop and is now almost completely stripped, the only things remaining are the front windscreen and rear shocks and springs. We removed the whole front end - motor, gearbox, x-member, struts, brakes, suspension - at once to save the hassle of bolting everything in individually in the new shell, as you will see from the photos. I also bought a new clutch to replace the old slipping one, it's not super heavy duty but it should last a while and it was well-priced.
The interior in the new car should be very tidy, as a 21st birthday present from Andrew and his family I am getting new hoodliner and door cards! I am also getting some new carpet and door seals too, so V 2.0 of ca18_datto should be quite a neat little car. It's kinda sad having to strip the old shell, especially since we put so much work into it and I didn't get to drive it for long, but it's going to be worth the wait for the next version. :)
Below are some new images, including one of the dump pipe we made, and one of the new and old clutches.
